Dates and Apple Crumble Slice

Ingredients
250g self-raising flour
1 tsp mixed spice (sifted together)
250g butter, diced
200g rolled oats
4 tbsp honey
1 egg yolk
¼ cup MARIGOLD Evaporated Full Cream Milk
Ingredients for filling:
300g pitted dates, chopped
3 green apples, peeled, cored and sliced
¼ cup lemon juice

Lightly line a 9 x 9-inch loose bottom baking pan.
To make the crumble, place sifted flour and spice mixture into a mixing bowl. Rub butter into flour until it resembles breadcrumbs. Add in rolled oats, honey, egg yolk and MARIGOLD Evaporated Full Cream Milk until well combined.
Press 2/3 of the crumble mixture into the base of prepared pan and smoothen the surface. Roll remaining crumble mixture into a ball, cover in cling wrap and leave in the freezer for later use.
Combine filling ingredients and cook over low heat for 8 minutes. Leave to cool.
Spread cooled filling evenly over base and grate frozen crumble mixture over it. Bake for 50 minutes or until lightly golden. Leave to cool before cutting into slices.
Combining lemon juice with apples will prevent it from turning brown.
